Figure of the ballerina Karsavina. It is a first-ever figurine with the one and only point of support — on a leg of the ballerina. Sculptor S. Sudbinin, 1913.

Collection of remarks of work XVIII - The beginnings of the XX centuries includes classical sculptures of an era of the educated absolutism both bright and refined works of an era of a modernist style. Masterpieces of such outstanding masters of the past as Zh.-D. Rashet, S. Pimenov, K. Somov, S. Sudbinin, O. Glebova-Sudeykina, are carefully recreated at Imperial Porcelain Plant from originals from a collection of the State Hermitage with observance of all subtleties of traditional technologies of manual molding and a list.

Manual casting

"The XX century presented to porcelain a subject of theater and the ballet. A series was small, because execution very labor-consuming. The sculpture representing Tamara Karsavina's ballerina of the 1930th years now again is cast small series. Work is unique that the center of gravity is observed, and the ballerina costs on a sock — there is no support. Porcelain — material special. It heavy, it not hollow, more dense, than, for example, bronze. To cast such sculpture — a masterpiece in that, as for technology of work. The form because of complexity is made of several pieces. Connect them a so-called shliker, "liquid porcelain". When such sculpture is burned, porcelain, plastic material, is warmed and loses rigidity. Figures heel, bend, become swollen... Usually such sculptures "lean" on two feet, or on any column. Here — phenomenal skill!"
